SPOTLIGHT

Brain Awareness Week

Mar 12, 2024

It’s Brain Awareness Week, the global campaign to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science.

Every March, participants host imaginative activities in their communities that share the wonders of the brain, and the impact brain science has on our everyday lives.

For all of us, the week is an opportunity to spread our key messages of prevention and practical ways people can look after their brain health and our role in supporting this such as eating well, physical exercise, sleep improvement, mindfulness, social engagement,  stress management, increasing activities to name but a few.

This year’s theme is: “Never too early, never too late” which is the name of last year ADI report on brain health  https://www.alzint.org/resource/world-alzheimer-report-2023/ and with this theme can highlight how people of all ages can take care of their brains. Calls to action from Alzheimer Scotland and Brain Health Scotland that we could support include:

  1. Primary call to action is to learn more about your brain health!
  2. Take the brain health brain quiz https://brainhealthplan.brainhealth.scot/start
  3. Sign up for BHS’s newsletter https://www.brainhealth.scot/

During the week you will find video resources for Brain Health Scotland and Alzheimer Scotland about how children, people with a dementia diagnosis, and an age range of adults personally look after their brain health.

This will be complimented by a series of infographics with general brain facts, tips for brain health, and resources for parents looking to speak to their children about their brains.  It will be good to share those too.
