Daniel Saunders has been successfully appointed as NHS Lanarkshire’s new Executive Medical Director following a rigorous recruitment process.
Dan, who will join the management team in the summer, is currently Deputy Chief Medical Officer at The Northern Care Alliance in Manchester.
His clinical background is as a clinical oncologist, completing his training in Leeds. He began his consultant career at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust where he was also clinical director, before moving to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. There he supported the establishment of the NHS’ first high energy proton beam therapy service and also became Divisional Medical Director in Europe’s largest dedicated specialist cancer hospital.

“He brings with him a wealth of clinical and managerial experience and his experience will be invaluable for us at a time when there are significant challenges across the public sector including Lanarkshire.
