After joining NHS Lanarkshire earlier this year as Director of Service Transformation, Planning and Performance, Ben Hannan has also been appointed as a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council’s governing council.
Ben is a registered pharmacist and NHS senior leader. He has held roles across pharmacy, planning, performance, governance and transformation, and was previously Chief Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy and Medicines at NHS Fife.
He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pharmacy and will now contribute to the work of the GPhC’s governing council, which oversees the regulation of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and registered pharmacies across Great Britain.
Ben said: “I am pleased to have been appointed to the General Pharmaceutical Council’s governing council.
“Pharmacy continues to play an increasingly important role in how people access care, manage their health and receive safe and effective treatment. Good regulation has a vital part to play in supporting public confidence, maintaining professional standards and ensuring that change across pharmacy and wider healthcare is delivered safely and fairly.
“I look forward to working with colleagues on the council and contributing my experience from professional practice, service leadership and NHS transformation to support safe, effective and inclusive pharmacy regulation for patients and the public.”
