Residents at Hattonlea care home in Bellshill have benefited from a number of iPads thanks to Angela Scott, specialist falls nurse.

Angela, who is chair of Bellshill Community Council, recognised the impact Covid-19 restrictions were having on care home residents, many of whom were isolated with very little social interaction and no opportunity to participate in exercise programmes, resulting in an increased falls risk.

Angela approached local councillor Jordan Linden and, with support from the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre and Bellshill health and social care consortium, was able to provide iPads to the home, allowing residents to maintain much-needed contact with their loved ones and participate in virtual exercise programmes.

Angela said: “I am delighted that we, as a community council, were able to work with our local partners and provide the iPads to the residents of Hattonlea care home.

“We have been informed that the iPads allowed families to keep in touch with their loved ones over the holiday period and, most importantly, allowed access to programmes that benefited the residents’ physical and mental health.”
