CHAS Director of Nursing Visits University Hospital Wishaw

Jul 28, 2025

University Hospital Wishaw recently welcomed Jen Rodgers, Director of Nursing and Family Support for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), on a special visit to our maternity unit, neonatal unit and paediatric department.

The visit was an opportunity to further strengthen partnership working and explore future opportunities for closer collaboration in the care and support of babies, children and families.

Reflecting on her visit, Jen said: “It was an absolute privilege to visit the team at University Hospital Wishaw. I was incredibly impressed by the commitment, compassion and innovation shown across the maternity, neonatal and paediatric services.

“Strengthening our partnership with NHS Lanarkshire is vital to ensuring that families receive joined-up, person-centred care no matter where they are. I look forward to building on this visit and continuing our collaboration.”

Jen leads all CHAS’s nursing and family support services, overseeing dedicated teams delivering care across hospices, hospitals and family homes throughout Scotland.

With a distinguished career that spans senior leadership roles in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, including Deputy Nurse Director and Chief Nurse at the Royal Hospital for Children and Neonates in Glasgow, Jen brings a wealth of experience and insight to her work. She has also held roles internationally in New Zealand and Australia.

Her leadership has been pivotal in promoting high-quality, person-centred care across the NHS, both nationally and internationally, including championing the “What Matters to Me?” approach. A passionate advocate for improving the experiences of care for children and their families, Jen’s contributions have been recognised through numerous awards, including Scottish Nurse of the Year, Scottish Woman of the Year and an MBE for services to healthcare in 2019.

Kate Boyle, Senior Midwife for Neonatal and Transitional Care at NHS Lanarkshire, echoed the positive impact of the visit: “We were delighted to welcome Jen and showcase the work of our dedicated teams.

“The visit provided a valuable opportunity to share learning, build on our existing relationship with CHAS and look at ways we can work even more closely together to support families through every stage of their journey.”

This visit marks another step forward in our shared commitment to delivering exceptional, compassionate care to children and families.
