There’s special help for people living with long-term physical health conditions.
Reclaim Your Life (RYL) is a free five-week course rub by the Clinical Health Psychology and ACCEPT (Adjustment to Chronic Conditions by Engaging with Psychological Therapies). They aim to provide a safe, welcoming and educational environment for attendees to learn more about how to manage their health conditions as well as maximising life.
Dr Deby Graham, Consultant Counselling Psychologist and Lead for the Clinical Health Psychology Service, said: “RYL will teach you to make changes to the way you think and act, creating a new relationship between you and your illness – one that helps separate who you are from what you’ve got.
“At each of the five sessions, you will learn new ways to respond when you are feeling ground down, frustrated or hopeless, and you will learn new skills that will help you tackle problems in your life. We also offer a bonus session on living with chronic pain, focusing on how chronic pain works and what you can do to manage it.
“Classes are held at the main hospital sites throughout the year and at varying times. They take the form of a lecture. There are some personal written tasks to complete during and after classes. Which run for 90 minutes each week, with refreshments provided.
“Participants discover practical solutions to manage symptoms and build a clear plan to reclaim their life.”
