Scotland’s Climate Week 2025

Sep 30, 2025

Scotland’s Climate Week 2025 begins today and runs until 5 October.

This annual event is an opportunity to celebrate climate action – to reflect on the progess we’ve made, across NHS Scotland and beyond, and to look to the future. A chance to learn more about what we can all do to help.

Jenni Minto MSP, Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health, shares a special message with NHS Scotland staff during Climate Week.

She said: “Scotland’s Climate Week is an opportunity to celebrate progress and encourage climate action. So, it’s fantastic to see and hear about all the great work going on, up and down the country, to make healthcare in Scotland more sustainable.

“Thank you – for all you do. NHS Scotland’s workforce is over 180,000 people strong – so what we do can make a real difference. And every action counts.

“The climate and ecological emergency is a health emergency. So, by taking climate action, we can also help to improve people’s health and wellbeing.  Making our NHS more sustainable brings many benefits – to our patients, our dedicated NHS Scotland staff and our communities.

“We know from daily experience, responses to the Citizens’ Panel and this year’s Scottish Climate Survey, that the people of Scotland care about the environmental impact of healthcare.

“Working together, we can improve health outcomes for the people we care for, reduce cost and adapt to future challenges.

“From energy use to our supply chain, from prescribing to recycling, from active and sustainable travel to our greenspaces – there are many ways we can make sustainable changes.

“The environmental sustainability and waste management eLearning courses are a great way to find out more about practical steps which you can take. Colleagues working as part of the NHS Scotland Sustainability Action Programme continue to be available to support in making these changes.

“Everyone in NHS Scotland has a part to play. The contribution of every member of staff is essential in helping Scotland become climate ready.”
