A trailblazing therapy hub on Ward 11 at University Hospital Wishaw has earned Assistant Practitioners Claire Cameron and Claudia Wylie a finalist spot in this year’s NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards.
Together, the pair have transformed stroke rehabilitation by running a daily “technology enriched” group session that helps patients rebuild balance, movement and cognition in fun, achievable ways. From virtual bowling to rhythm stepping and therapeutic puzzles, the sessions turn therapy into something patients look forward to — and talk about long after.
Claire and Claudia run the hub independently, tailoring each session to patients’ needs and adapting in real time based on how individuals are feeling. Their physiotherapy and occupational therapy blend ensures exercises are practical, meaningful, and focused on real-life tasks that build everyday independence.
Patients, families and colleagues all report visible benefits — from improved recovery to boosted morale. The duo’s blend of compassion, creativity and teamwork is delivering life-changing results.
