A recent football tournament aimed at helping those with addiction issues took place at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre.

The Recovery Cup, funded by North and South Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Partnerships (ADPs), has been held each year since 2022. The event – organised in partnership with Turning Point Scotland, Street Soccer Scotland, North Lanarkshire Recovery Scotland and Phoenix Futures – saw teams from across Lanarkshire come together to raise awareness of issues around addiction and supporting wellbeing.

Paul Campbell, development officer, North Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP) said: “Our vision is a Lanarkshire where individuals and families experience less harm from the effects of alcohol and drug use.

“Both North and South Lanarkshire ADPs are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of local families, reducing stigma around substance use and improving access to treatment and care for individuals affected by such issues”.

A number of organisations were present on the day, with stalls to promote services that individuals and families can access support. Many organisations across Lanarkshire contributed to the day with 12 teams participating in the matches. The tournament winners were a squad representing the North Lanarkshire addiction recovery team.
