As NHS Lanarkshire’s planning for winter moves forward, staff are invited to take part in hands-on training sessions next month to explore how virtual wards can support you in your role and the people you care for.
Running on 17 and 18 September, the sessions offer a practical introduction to the Doccla virtual ward platform – the same system already helping patients recover safely at home. These training sessions are about much more than seeing how a piece of equipment works. It’s about creating space for listening, learning, and collaboration – exploring together how virtual wards can fit into care pathways in ways that support staff, ease pressures, and deliver the best outcomes for patients.
The sessions are open to all staff – whether you’re directly involved in virtual ward delivery or simply want to see how the technology works and how it integrates into the patient journey.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from colleagues across different departments asking how Doccla works, what the equipment looks like, and how it integrates with the patient journey,” said Claire Ritchie, Interim Director of the Interface Directorate. “These sessions are designed to answer those questions in a clear, supportive, and accessible way – and to explore together how this approach can help support staff as well as patients.”
Virtual wards are already making a difference – alongside Hospital at Home and Flow Navigation Centre Plus (FNC+Plus) – by enabling more people to be cared for at home, reducing pressure on inpatient beds, and maintaining close clinical oversight.

See it in action
To see the impact of virtual wards for patients, watch our short video on Marlyn and Ronnie – two Lanarkshire residents who benefitted from care at home through the Doccla system and FNC+Plus:
This is the latest in a series of workforce engagement activities designed to give staff the tools, knowledge, and confidence to make the most of virtual wards – and to support you in delivering safe, sustainable, and people-centred care as we head towards the busier months ahead.
