NHS Lanarkshire has new mandatory waste management training modules to ensure all staff are equipped with the latest knowledge on waste segregation, handling and disposal.
The learnPro modules are tailored to different roles across the organisation to improve compliance with legal and environmental standards.
Ensuring waste is handled correctly is a legal responsibility, and this training provides staff with the necessary understanding to meet SEPA regulations and contractor guidance.
Three role-specific modules are available:
- Foundation – for general awareness of waste management
- Clinical – for staff handling clinical waste
- Detailed – for those responsible for managing waste processes
Managers are responsible for identifying which module(s) their team members must complete.
Harry Campbell, Head of Technical Services, said: “Correct waste management is critical to both compliance and environmental sustainability. These modules provide staff with essential knowledge to ensure waste is handled efficiently, safely and in line with regulations.
“We all have a role to play in getting this right. By improving our waste disposal practices, we not only ensure compliance but also contribute to a more sustainable healthcare environment.
“Proper waste management reduces environmental impact, enhances safety and optimises resource use, benefiting everyone within NHS Lanarkshire.”
