The Alcohol, Cannabis, and Vaping Team has received a well-deserved Big Shout Out for their dedication, innovation, and commitment to addressing alcohol-related harms in local communities.
This dynamic team has made remarkable strides in training, community engagement, and raising awareness of not only alcohol harms but also vaping and other nicotine products and cannabis.
In 2024, the team underwent significant changes, with new members joining to complement the existing expertise. Together, they quickly formed positive working relationships and fully embraced NHS values of fairness, respect, teamwork, and equality.
One of their standout achievements has been the redevelopment of the team’s training programs. All alcohol and vaping training courses were evaluated, refreshed, and made more interactive to better engage participants.
In addition to this, the team designed new courses to address emerging issues:
- Raising awareness about the relationship between older adults and alcohol.
- Addressing cannabis use, in response to WHO data showing Scotland has the highest rate of adolescent cannabis use in Europe.
- Highlighting emerging trends in oral nicotine and smokeless tobacco use.
They also responded to partner requests and developed an educational resource that includes key messaging for all Public Health Priority 4 topics.
In their first 12 months as a team they collectively delivered 46 sessions, and attended 39 partner community events across Lanarkshire.
The team’s efforts have garnered excellent feedback from participants, reflecting their ability to adapt quickly and deliver high-quality, impactful learning opportunities. Their commitment to care, compassion, and innovation has made a lasting impact on the communities they serve.
A big shout out to the Alcohol, Cannabis, and Vaping Team for their exceptional work in tackling alcohol harms, vaping and cannabis-related issues. Your dedication, teamwork, and innovation are truly making a difference. Thank you for all that you do.
