A new 90 second film from NHS Lanarkshire offers a clear, accessible glimpse at eTriage — the digital check-in and triage system being introduced across Emergency Departments from Spring 2025.
The short video explains what eTriage is, how it works, and crucially, why it’s being introduced: to enhance patient safety and support clinical teams by capturing vital information right at the point of arrival.
The system allows patients to self-register using a touchscreen, with information flowing instantly to clinicians. This supports faster assessment, better prioritisation, and adds a continuous ‘safety lens’ to the waiting room. Staff-led triage remains in place — eTriage simply enhances the process.
Claire Ritchie, Interim Director of the Interface Directorate, said: “This is a practical step to improve flow and safety in our Emergency Departments. It ensures clinicians have the information they need from the outset.”
eTriage will go live at University Hospital Monklands in April, with phased rollout to Wishaw and Hairmyres.
