Our speech and language therapy teams are achieving a series of successes for residents thanks to an increased use of technology.
Delivered across the whole of Lanarkshire by University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, adult and pediatric speech and language therapy services are increasingly using data-driven strategies to improve lives, speed up care, and create healthier communities.
Members of North Lanarkshire’s Integration Joint Board’s Performance, Finance and Audit Committee learned about faster access to children’s services thanks to a new group consultation model.
The new initiative is providing support for children and families with early communication needs and is designed to streamline service delivery and improve access to necessary interventions.
Innovations in Parkinson’s Disease treatment led to a successful technology-based trial which reduces the capacity needed to deliver Lee Silverman Voice Treatment were also discussed.
Created specifically for people with Parkinson’s, this speech therapy model focuses on the potential for technological advancements to enhance treatment efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
Introducing the TrakCare system across the child and young people teams has improved patient engagement and service efficiency with e-referrals and text reminders now being introduced.
Brian Moore, chair of the Integration Joint Board Performance, Finance & Audit Committee, said: “Like every other partnership across the country we face challenges; however, these results show what’s possible when we combine innovation with teamwork.
“We continue to increase our use of data to guide our decisions so that we’re making a real difference for families, patients, and staff. The achievements of speech and language therapy teams reflect our shared goal: a healthier, stronger North Lanarkshire.
