A programme of intensive staff engagement is being carried out ahead of the introduction of a cutting-edge system designed to streamline Emergency Department (ED) waiting times.
eTriage enables patients to check in digitally upon arrival, capturing vital information through an intuitive system that complements the existing triage process. This automated approach, overseen by experienced clinical decision-makers, has already demonstrated significant success in other NHS Trusts across the UK.
In Lanarkshire, the first stage of the programme is set to launch, with kiosks being introduced as part of a phased rollout across all three hospitals starting from early Spring.
Interim Director of NHS Lanarkshire’s Interface Division, Claire Ritchie, highlighted ongoing staff support, engagement and training as being key to the programme’s success.
“This is a tremendously exciting milestone in our ongoing journey toward a smarter, kinder, and more efficient health and care system,” said Claire.
“At the same time, we understand that change can bring concerns, so it’s equally important to clarify what eTriage is not. This system is not about adding complexity or replacing existing roles. It’s a tool designed to support staff and improve workflows, ensuring a better experience for everyone involved.”
The introduction of eTriage forms part of NHS Lanarkshire’s Interface Directorate’s ongoing efforts to innovate and adapt to the growing demands on healthcare services.
A period of intensive ‘table top’ staff training, targeted at hospital staff, is already underway.
Additionally, a series of new Espresso Webinars will be announced soon to provide an accessible, jargon-free overview of eTriage.
These short and engaging sessions will also highlight the Interface Directorate’s overall work, dedicating time to answering staff questions and creating a space for everyone to be heard.
“Feedback from our first series of webinars has been overwhelmingly positive. This will be another opportunity for our staff to engage directly with the Interface Division’s team, share thoughts, and help shape the future of patient care,” said Claire.
