NHS Lanarkshire’s new healthcare strategy ‘Our Health Together – Living Our Best Lives in Lanarkshire’ has been given approval by Board members at our latest Board meeting.
Board members also took the time to thank both the local community and our staff for their role in helping us shape this significant piece work on how we develop services for the future generations.
The new strategy lays out our plans for the future of healthcare in Lanarkshire from 2024 to 2031 and is the strategic context for our transformation and reform programme, which is very much aligned to national vision for reform announced by the Cabinet Secretary in June 2024.
Professor Jann Gardner, Chief Executive said: “We know we need to do things differently. By transforming how we provide care and embracing innovative ways of working we can deliver a sustainable and modern healthcare system for our patients and service users.
“Advances in medicines, technology and science provide opportunities to change and modernise the way we deliver care.
“To help treat and support those who need healthcare the most we need to maximise what we can provide within our resource and local residents and staff play a vital role in supporting the actions we need to take for positive change.”
The new strategy sets out how we will redesign service, both acute and primary care. There are a number of areas our team will be focussing on to help improve health outcomes for the population of Lanarkshire. This includes:
- how we can improve access to our services;
- a focus on health improvement;
- reducing the health inequalities that exist across Lanarkshire;
- a focus on how we can support the wellbeing of our staff while we take the necessary actions to shape services for the future;
- continuing to build on the successes we have already achieved through;
- ensuring that any improvements we make are ones that are important to our residents and staff.
We also need a focus on improving primary care services, in particular, the pressing need to address the significant issues facing General Practice. We will focus on a range of services delivered by GP colleagues and what support is required to allow primary care services to deliver better care for patients across Lanarkshire.
NHS Lanarkshire’s Chairman, Martin Hill, added: “Our journey is only beginning and we have a long road ahead but with the support of our local authority and voluntary partners, our staff and local communities we can work together to address the challenges that exist.
“We know we must make tough decisions that will change the way we deliver services and we are up for the challenge through collaboration and innovation.”
