The excellence and professionalism of health and care services in Lanarkshire has shone at a glittering national award night.
South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership Community Nurses (End of Life Care) emerged victorious in the highly competitive Integration Award category at the Scottish Health Awards. Judges recognised the profound difference they make during times of great need.
Physiotherapist Paulina Ranizsewska – described as a ‘one-woman powerhouse’ – won the Allied Health Professional category. The trophy was awarded in recognition of Paulina’s incredible compassion and expertise which have brought hope and relief to many people in the wake of the often-forgotten toll of Long Covid.
Professor Jann Gardner, Chief Executive of NHS Lanarkshire, and Professor Soumen Sengupta, Director of Health and Social Care for South Lanarkshire, attended in support of the winners – and the representation of Lanarkshire finalists across other categories.
Professor Gardner stated: “The calibre of all finalists across Scotland was as exceptional as it was inspiring. To have such a strong – and successful – representation from Lanarkshire in the finals is an outstanding achievement.
“Overall, these accomplishments are a strong reflection of the standards our staff set in serving local people and communities every day. My sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the Team Lanarkshire winners and finalists. You’ve done everyone proud!”
Professor Sengupta added: “This national recognition clearly demonstrates the commitment of our staff to collaborative working, innovation, and their immense drive.
“We are exceptionally proud and privileged to work with staff who demonstrate this level of commitment no matter the challenge. I extend my sincere thanks to them, as well as all our teams and services, who continue to work extremely hard for the people of Lanarkshire.”
Janice McClymont, Head of Profession for Occupational Therapy Services, was a finalist in both the People’s Choice Award and Leader of the Year categories. She has been described as ‘an inspiration to all.’
Jacqueline McKechnie, a retired nurse who worked at University Hospital Hairmyres, was shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award in recognition of her exceptional contribution and compassion.
The winners and finalists continue the exceptionally strong representation of Lanarkshire in these awards in recent years.
