From tonight University Hospital Wishaw will be lit pink and blue to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week which runs from 9-15 October.
University Hospital Wishaw will join a host of other buildings and monuments across the country in remembrance of babies who have been lost during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
Julie Ann Tierney, Bereavement Specialist Midwife, said: “Baby Loss Awareness Week is an opportunity for those affected by pregnancy and baby loss and their families and friends to unite with others across the world to commemorate their babies’ lives and lost pregnancies.”
A week of activities has been arranged at University Hospital Wishaw:
- Monday – Tower at University Hospital Wishaw will be lit pink and blue in honour of baby loss awareness week.
- Tuesday – Tree of remembrance, place your baby’s name on the tree in the sanctuary (open 9am-9pm). The tree will be present until Wave of Light on Sunday 15 October.
- Wednesday – Books of remembrance will be available to view within the Sanctuary 9am-4pm
- Thursday – Making memorial crafts evening in the Sanctuary at University Hospital Wishaw. 6pm-8pm. Spaces are limited – contact bereavement midwife to book – julieann.tierney@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk
- Friday – All staff are invited to join the community walk in honour of baby loss awareness week. The walk will take place at the ash park in front of University Hospital Wishaw from 1:00pm to 1:30pm.
Julie Ann added: “The week also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, the importance that bereavement support plays in the ongoing bereavement journey and of the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes and to save babies’ lives.”
