34 members of NHS Lanarkshire staff undertook the Race for Recipients challenge in honour of organ donors, their recipients and those waiting for life saving transplants, coming in 3rd for Scotland.

During Organ and Tissue Donation Week (26 September – 2 October) the Race for Recipients team set out to walk, cycle, swim or run in recognition of the 7000 people waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

Dr Sam Ley, Consultant in Critical Care & Anaesthesia, and Race for Recipients participant, said:

“Race for Recipients is an excellent initiative to increase awareness about organ donation among patients, relatives and staff. Hopefully it will encourage more people to have a conversation with their loved ones about their organ donation wishes, and encourage healthcare staff to consider organ donation enquiry as a normal part of end of life care.”

The team completed 146 activities, covering a distance of 1,453.1km and achieved 3rd place in Scotland.
