NHS Lanarkshire’s Staff Winter Wellbeing Week is taking place next week.
This event, which runs from Monday 26 October until Sunday 1 November, encourages our staff to make time for their wellbeing.
Health plays a large part in the week, which features a number of free sessions which are open to all of our colleagues.
Mark Kennedy, General Manager of SALUS, the NHS-based provider of occupational health, safety and return to work services, said: “Winter Wellbeing Week is a great opportunity for our staff to get support in a number of areas, where they might have worries or concerns.
“We know that when the nights get darker and colder, people can begin to get more anxious about the months ahead in a number of areas. To help, we have a number of useful sessions lined up, looking at areas from mental and physical wellbeing to finance, and heating advice to driving.
“Each of these events is free, and we recommend staff attend if they think any of these could be helpful to them.”
Sessions look at a number of areas, including menopause and alcohol awareness, a stress control taster session, Helping People Act Sooner: Cancer Awareness and Screening, Understanding Autism, Wellbeing and Neuroinclusive Workplaces, and there will be an Introduction to the Social Determinants of Health and Health Inequalities webinar.
There are also Cannabis and Vaping 101 – What You Really Need to Know events.
Throughout the week, daily “spaces for listening” sessions are being held. These are a space in which those attending have an equal opportunity to share their thoughts. These sessions are limited to six people in each, and booking in advance is recommended.
Additionally, there is NHS24 Breathing Space – You’re Not Alone: Know Where to Turn for Support session, which is for those who are finding it difficult to manage their thoughts and emotions. This webinar will explore the mental health support available through NHS24, including the Breathing Space service.
Understanding Mental Health Stigma is another event, while Ask, Tell: Save a Life is a practical session exploring mental health, and offers support in preventing suicide.
There’s also support for those who are concerned about their money, with a session on financial wellbeing and Making Your Money Work for You. The NHS Credit Union will also be holding a session. Another event looks at covering State Pensions – What You Need To Know, while other sessions look at Women and the Impact of Pensions, with another on Tracing and Transferring Pensions.
Home Energy Scotland will also be running an energy advice and support session.
There is also a webinar on Embracing the Winter, and how to look after ourselves and make the most of the winter months. There’s also a webinar on Winter Driving and Occupational Health.
