Pharmacist Nicola is published in leading journal

Oct 12, 2026

A member of NHS Lanarkshire’s Research and Innovation Pharmacy Forum has had her work published in a highly-respected international journal.

Nicola Jarvie, a primary care pharmacist working in the Clydesdale locality, is being featured in the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice.

Her paper is titled Community pharmacy views of the digital prescribing and dispensing pathway (DPDP) in Scotland—a qualitative study.

Nicola said: “My research paper has just recently been accepted for publication by the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice.

“I undertook this research when I was part of the Scottish Pharmacy Clinical Leadership Fellowship (SPCLF) and was working with National Services Scotland (NSS) Digital Prescribing and Dispensing Pathways (DPDP) programme.

“The aim of the research was to reach out to community pharmacists, as key stakeholders, to see how they felt about this digital pathway and to understand the benefits and concerns from their perspective.

“It’s professionally rewarding to see something you have worked on for the best part of two years be accepted and published in such a reputable journal. I am not an academic and have never submitted any work for publication before, so I was delighted that my work was of the standard to be considered. The fact that it was then actually accepted for publication is a huge achievement for me.”

Our Chief Pharmacist, Professor Graeme Bryson, explained: “The International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, in terms of research, is one of the highest level pharmacy publications internationally.

“It’s niche, but in terms of credibility, it’s very highly regarded.

“We’re absolutely delighted for Nicola, and this demonstrates the high quality of the research work which is taking place within NHS Lanarkshire today.”

Nicola concluded: “My friends and colleagues have all been delighted for me as they know how hard I worked on it over the past couple of years. I’m sure my colleagues will share widely with their peers and colleagues too.”
