Staff Awards See 43% Increase in Nominations

Jun 29, 2026

Colleagues across NHS Lanarkshire have once again shown their strong commitment to recognising excellence, with this year’s Staff Awards seeing a 43% increase in nominations compared to last year.

This significant rise highlights the pride colleagues feel in one another and the growing momentum behind celebrating the outstanding care, compassion and innovation seen across our teams every day.

The NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards are an important opportunity to shine a light on the individuals and teams who go above and beyond for patients, families and colleagues. From delivering exceptional care and introducing new ideas, to supporting services through strong teamwork or making a difference behind the scenes, the awards recognise the full breadth of contributions across our organisation.

This year’s categories reflect that wide range of contributions, including:

  • Excellence in Care and Compassion
  • Innovation and Improvement
  • Outstanding Team Collaboration (clinical and non-clinical)
  • Unsung Hero (clinical and non-clinical)
  • Volunteer Contribution
  • Chair Award
  • Chief Executive Award
  • People’s Choice Award

Each nomination tells a story – of someone who has made a meaningful difference – and together they paint a powerful picture of the values that define NHS Lanarkshire.

What happens next?

With nominations now closed, the next stage of the process will see the judging panels carefully review each submission. Their role will be to assess the quality and impact of nominations and identify the top three finalists in each category.

Given the strength and volume of entries this year, this will be a thorough and considered process to ensure that those shortlisted truly reflect the very best of NHS Lanarkshire.

Colleagues are also being encouraged to keep a look out for their opportunity to take part in this year’s People’s Choice Award. Once shortlisted, the top five candidates will be put forward to a staff vote, giving colleagues the chance to choose who they believe is most deserving of this new recognition.

NHS Lanarkshire Chief Executive, Louise Long, said: “The Staff Awards are an important opportunity to recognise that commitment and to say a heartfelt thank you to the people and teams who make such a difference across our organisation.

“Whether someone has delivered outstanding care, supported colleagues through a challenging time, introduced a new idea, or quietly made things better behind the scenes, we want to hear about them.

“This year’s increase in nominations really highlights the strength of feeling across our organisation and the value we place on recognising one another.

“It also means our judging panels now have a significant task ahead of them. The quality and volume of nominations will make it incredibly challenging to identify just three finalists in each category, but that in itself speaks volumes about the standard of work taking place every day across NHS Lanarkshire.

“I would also encourage colleagues to take part in the People’s Choice Award when voting opens. This is a great opportunity for staff to have their say and help recognise a colleague or team who has truly made a difference.”

The awards celebrate what is best about NHS Lanarkshire – kindness, professionalism, innovation, collaboration and the many ways colleagues improve patient care and the experience of working here.
