A group of vascular surgery staff at University Hospital Hairmyres are cycling a loop between the hospital and Troon beach.
Sharon Chan, a vascular surgeon at Hairmyres, said: “We’re a bunch of passionate clinicians and allied health care professionals who’ll be participating in the Circulation Foundation Relay to raise awareness of vascular surgery diseases.
“We had a bake sale this week and we’re biking on Saturday, including a cheeky dip/wild swim in the Firth of Clyde midway.
“A Circulation Foundation baton will be passed on to us while we fundraise. The baton will then be passed on to further units across England before landing in Liverpool for the Annual Scientific Meeting.”
The Hairmyres unit is part of the South West Scotland Vascular Network.
The Circulation Foundation is a charity dedicated to vascular health. Its aims include:
- Supporting vital research into vascular diseases
- Supporting individuals living with vascular diseases
- Raising awareness of the impact of vascular disease has on our patients, their carers and wider NHS
