The Property and Support Services Division’s Transport Department is getting a Big Shout Out for the quality and teamwork they have demonstrated in delivering one of NHS Lanarkshire’s most ambitious and forward‑thinking programmes of change.

Since as far back as 2022, the team has had a clear, robust and detailed plan in place to decarbonise NHS Lanarkshire’s light commercial vehicle fleet. With a strong focus on quality, safety and sustainability, they set out a year‑on‑year transition to fully electric vehicles — supporting NHS Lanarkshire’s commitment to the Scottish Government’s Net Zero target by December 2025 and ensuring compliance with national climate change legislation.

What makes this achievement particularly impressive is the way the team approached the challenge. Long before the pressures of the pandemic, they carefully mapped out how a transition to Net Zero could be delivered without compromising service delivery. Their planning took full account of operational logistics and business continuity, recognising that many NHS Lanarkshire services rely on vehicles as a critical part of the care they provide.

This work required close collaboration and teamwork across departments, alongside strong engagement with national and local partners. The Transport Department successfully developed and submitted financial bids to both the Scottish Government and Lanarkshire Health Board, securing the investment needed to turn ambition into reality.

As a result of this careful planning and collective effort, progress has been significant. By June 2025, 57 of NHS Lanarkshire’s 69 light commercial vehicles were fully electric. These vehicles now support a wide range of essential services, including Dental Childsmile, Portering and Transport, Harm Reduction, Digital and Maintenance — helping teams carry out their work in a more sustainable way.

This transition represents far more than a fleet upgrade. It reflects a commitment to quality, responsibility and teamwork, ensuring services remain reliable and resilient while reducing environmental impact for future generations.

This Big Shout Out recognises the Property and Support Services Division Transport Department for working together with clarity, professionalism and determination — delivering high‑quality outcomes that benefit NHS Lanarkshire, its staff, its services and the communities it serves.
