As we continue our spotlight on the work of the Board of NHS Lanarkshire, here’s a look at Board members’ latest walk-round.
Members of the NHS Lanarkshire Board recently took part in a walk-round visit to Maternity and Neonatal Services at University Hospital Wishaw.
The visit gave the Board members the opportunity to hear directly from staff and see first‑hand the care being delivered.
Katharina Kasper, Board Chair, said: “Board walk-rounds are a vital way for us to stay connected to what really matters – the experience of our staff and the care they provide every day. They help Board members better understand services and listen to staff.
“It was inspiring to see the commitment, compassion and professionalism across maternity and neonatal services, and to hear directly about the excellent work underway to enhance care for women, babies and families.”
As well as the Board Chair, the walk-round team included Non‑Executive Directors – Jane Duffty, Scott Haldane and Lesley McDonald – and senior leaders from Acute Services.
Board members observed the maternity and neonatal services huddle, toured the Neonatal Unit, Special Care Baby Unit and Transitional Care Unit, and visited maternity inpatient areas.
Throughout the visit, the team were joined by colleagues from across maternity and neonatal services, including clinical, managerial and site leadership, who shared insights into day‑to‑day practice and ongoing improvement work.
Leah Noble, Interim Director of Midwifery, said: “It was really valuable for colleagues across maternity and neonatal services to have the opportunity to speak directly with Board members and share both our achievements and our priorities.
“Our teams are incredibly proud of the care they provide every day, and visits like this help highlight the commitment, teamwork and compassion that sit behind our services.”
