Colleagues hold awareness sessions on supporting vulnerable adults

Mar 17, 2026

The Public Protection Team raised awareness for National Adult Support and Protection Day.

Maureen Badavi, Adult Support & Protection Advisor, said: “The team held pop-up table sessions between University Hospitals Wishaw, Hairmyres and Monklands to help spread awareness of the important role they play in providing guidance, training and advice to all NHS staff.

“The Public Protection Services’ aim is to prevent harm by delivering high-quality, safe and effective services to protect unborn babies, children, young people and adults.

“Between all three hospitals, the pop-up events were successful in providing advice and signposting to both the public and our staff.

“The Adult Support and Protection Act in Scotland was passed in 2007 with the purpose of protecting vulnerable adults from the harm, abuse and neglect they may face due to disability, illness or mental health issues.

“We all play a role in the support and protection of adults who are unable to protect themselves, and raising awareness for the cause is an important aspect of this. The national focus this year was on general awareness of adult support and protection as well as adult support and protection in supported settings.

“To show support for vulnerable adults, it is important to speak up on any concerns as a person at risk may not be able to themselves.”

North Lanarkshire Adult Protection Committee also marked the day by lighting up the Civic Centre in Motherwell blue to raise further awareness of the cause.
