Dr Jayne Morrison is receiving a Big Shout Out in recognition of the care and compassion she shows every day to patients, colleagues and communities across Lanarkshire.
As a GP with a Special Interest in Addictions, Jayne has worked within the Community Prescribing Service for more than 20 years. Even as she approaches semi-retirement, her commitment to this work remains unwavering. She has chosen to continue providing prescribing sessions, ensuring that people who rely on opioid substitution treatment continue to receive safe, consistent and compassionate care.
Jayne’s care and compassion are evident not only in how she supports patients, but in how she supports the teams around her. She plays a vital role in organising rotas, inducting new staff, and providing training and guidance to colleagues across the Community Prescribing Service, CAReS and ART. Her experience, reliability and calm approach have been essential to the day-to-day running of these services, and she does this with a warmth and cheerfulness that puts those around her at ease.
For Jayne, caring for patients goes far beyond issuing a prescription. She takes the time to understand the wider challenges people may be facing and supports them to access GP services, mental health treatment, social care, recovery support and rehabilitation. Her compassion is practical and personal — whether that means helping someone navigate complex systems or ensuring they have somewhere safe and welcoming to go for Christmas dinner.
Alongside her direct patient care, Jayne has consistently shown compassion through leadership and improvement. In response to the rising harm associated with illicit benzodiazepine use, she took the lead in developing a prescribing guideline to help service users detox safely. She also supported the development of the CAReS Urgent Response Team, helping to ensure people could access treatment on the same day, when they need it most.
Jayne continues to share her knowledge generously, mentoring nursing colleagues as they work towards Advanced Nurse Practitioner status, and supporting the next generation of clinicians with patience and encouragement.
This Big Shout Out recognises Dr Jayne Morrison for truly living NHS Lanarkshire’s value of Care and Compassion in everything she does — through her clinical expertise, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to doing the right thing for patients and colleagues alike.
