Top three things to consider for your health and wellbeing this winter

Dec 23, 2025

As winter places additional pressures on health and care services, NHS Lanarkshire staff are being encouraged to take time to reflect on their own health and wellbeing during the colder months.

A pre-recorded session, Top 3 things to consider with your own health and wellbeing, was delivered as part of Staff Health and Wellbeing Week and is available to watch on demand.

The session offers practical, evidence-based insights to help staff look after themselves during what can be a particularly challenging time of year.

The session is led by Dr Sonya Wallbank, Programme Director at the King’s Fund. A consultant clinical psychologist, Dr Wallbank specialises in workforce resilience and restorative approaches to wellbeing. She has held senior roles across the NHS, including as a director of service delivery and workforce, and led the national health and wellbeing response for NHS staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Drawing on her experience of working with organisations, teams and individuals across the UK, Australia and the US, Dr Wallbank explores three key considerations to support personal wellbeing. The session focuses on recognising pressures early, understanding the impact of sustained demand, and taking realistic, achievable steps to protect mental and emotional health.

Designed to be accessible and relevant for staff at all levels, the session acknowledges the unique challenges of working in health and care during winter, while reinforcing the importance of self-care, reflection and supportive workplace cultures.
