Weigh to Go at home

Jan 5, 2021

Lanarkshire’s free, adult weight management group, Weigh to Go, is now running online.

Online Weigh to Go groups are run in partnership with Culture and Leisure North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire Leisure and NHS Lanarkshire.

Prior to the pandemic, classes were held in local community venues, however now Culture and Leisure North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire Leisure are running online Zoom sessions every week, to allow Lanarkshire residents to continue to lead a healthier lifestyle, in line with coronavirus restrictions.

These instructor led Zoom classes, will consist of a 45 minute healthy eating and lifestyle interactive chat followed by 45 minutes of a low impact exercise class, that allows participants to take part in the comfort of their own home.

Jonathan Cavana, Weight Management Service Manager, at NHS Lanarkshire, said: “We understand it’s been a stressful time throughout the Covid pandemic and with Lanarkshire now placed in lockdown, which includes local gyms having to temporarily close, Weigh to Go online is a great chance to continue to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

“The programme incorporates both an education and physical activity element tailored to suit all fitness levels, and is open to anyone who wishes to join.

“Held by a friendly, qualified instructor, you will be supported on your journey to eat healthier and become more active.”

Melanie Menzies, Health and Wellbeing Manager, Culture and Leisure North Lanarkshire, commented: “After successfully piloting these online classes in December, we are delighted to be able to continue providing our hugely popular Weigh to Go programme platform during the Covid pandemic. While we know people really enjoy face to face classes, we hope that providing these free, online interactive sessions will be a great alternative until our venues can restart our group fitness classes.

“We have had great success with moving many other of our fitness sessions online, and we’re looking forward to welcoming all attendees who wish to join.”

Scott Crone, Health Development Officer, South Lanarkshire Leisure, said: “Our popular, Weigh to Go class is now available online for residents to continue to join in and receive advice on living an overall healthier, balanced lifestyle, as well as exercise.

“Each week covers different health and wellbeing topics and how attendees can implement these into their current lifestyle.

“The exercise section of the class will also contribute to the NHS recommended amount of weekly physical activity (150 minutes), comfortably from home.”
