Vaccination Service

Covid-19 and Flu drop-in clinics are in your area – see our weekly guide for venues and times:

If you are eligible for either this year’s flu or Covid-19 booster or both we have started issuing appointments. To find out if you are eligible please visit NHS inform at https://www.nhsinform.scot/wintervaccines.

All vaccinations are now provided by NHS Lanarkshire’s vaccination service – with the exception of travel vaccinations which are delivered by certain community pharmacies.

Since 1 April 2022, GP practices no longer have responsibility for providing vaccinations. Please do not contact your GP practice about vaccinations.

The vaccination service provides a range of vaccines from centres that were set up to deliver the covid-19 vaccine. These centres are:

  • Braidfute Retail Park, Lanark
  • Eddlewood Public Hall, Hamilton
  • Link Community Centre, Cumbernauld

For information about vaccine appointments and drop in clinic times at each centre, please view our week by week vaccination guide.

Covid-19 vaccine

The Autumn/Winter vaccination programme begins across Lanarkshire on Monday 4 September and runs until 31 March 2024.  If you are eligible for either this year’s flu or Covid-19 booster or both we have started issuing appointments. To find out if you are eligible please visit NHS inform at https://www.nhsinform.scot/wintervaccines.

Pneumococcal vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine protects against becoming unwell with pneumococcal infection – which can lead to illnesses including bacterial meningitis and pneumonia.

Everyone over the age of 65 and those aged 2 to 64 with certain health conditions are eligible for the pneumococcal vaccine. Most people over the age of 65 will only need one dose, which will help protect them for life.

We will be offering drop in clinics from 17 February 2024 for anyone eligible for their pneumococcal vaccination. This includes an SAS Mobile Vaccination Bus. For dates and sites, see our week by week guide.

For more information on the pneumococcal vaccine and details on who is eligible, visit www.nhsinform.scot/pneumococcalvaccine

Shingles vaccine

The shingles vaccine helps reduce the risk of getting shingles and can reduce the symptoms if people do get it. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox (varicella zoster). When you recover from chickenpox most of this virus is destroyed, but some survives and lies inactive in the body. It can then become active again in later life.

From Monday 8 January 2024 we will be offering shingles vaccines and anyone eligible for a first or second dose should be receiving an appointment letter to attend one of our vaccination centres. If people cannot attend their appointments, information on alternative arrangements is included in the appointment letters. For dates and sites, see our week by week guide.
