Fatigue Management Group

The Fatigue Management Group

Delivered on various sites within Lanarkshire, the group meets weekly over a 5 week period and is delivered by an Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner. Each session will last 2 hrs. Patients are welcome to choose which group they wish to attend.

It is encouraged that patients commit to attending all 5 weeks to ensure that they experience the full course content. Before selecting a group, please consider which group you are able to attend over the 5 week period.

Each session begins with a warm welcome. The Occupational Therapist will outline the topics to be covered within the session and will then lead the group through each of these. While exploring different theories and topics attendees will be given the opportunity to complete individual work, join in practical sessions and contribute to group discussions. The session ends with the opportunity to join in a relaxation which is led by the Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner. Throughout each week real-life examples will be shared, it is hoped that these will assist you as you explore options where changes can be made to your life to help you as you learn to live and manage your fatigue.

What is Fatigue?

Fatigue is an extreme, sometimes overwhelming, physical and mental tiredness, that doesn’t significantly improve with rest or sleep. (Versus Arthritis, May 2024) https://www.versusarthritis.org/about-arthritis/managing-symptoms/managing-fatigue/

Patients living with fatigue often report that they can:

  • feel low in mood,
  • have little or no motivation to complete daily tasks; and
  • have difficulty concentrating.

Some have described a feeling of brain fog or symptoms similar to flu, such as heavy arms and legs, feeling of exhaustion and no energy. Often people will admit that they feel they miss out on activities they enjoy or have given up.

Who is this group for?

This group is aimed at patients who report that they live with moderate to significant fatigue. The course will teach them how to manage their fatigue levels and reduce the impact it has on their life. This involves participation within a group setting. If you do not wish to attend a group setting, individual sessions can be arranged with the Occupational Therapist. They will deliver theory on a one to one arrangement.
