Meet the team

About our team

All members of our team contribute to neurodevelopmental assessments. As well as this, each profession brings their own knowledge and unique skill set as required. Who your child or young person sees will depend on what areas of their development are explored.

Learn more about what each profession can offer below.

Speech & Language Therapists

  • Speech, language and communication skills are vital in helping children and young people to participate in their day-to-day lives. These skills include using language to communicate, understanding the things that others say and getting needs met.
  • Within the neurodevelopmental team our Speech and Language Therapists can carry out specialised assessments regarding a young persons speech, language and/or communication where it is indicated.
  • Our Speech and Language Therapists are closely linked with the wider Speech and Language Therapy service across NHS Lanarkshire and have an overview of what supports and services are available to help develop children’s language and communication.

Occupational Therapists

  • Occupational Therapy enables people to participate in daily life to improve their health and wellbeing. Daily life is made up of many activities (or occupations). Occupations for children and young people include self-care, being productive (attending nursery or school) and leisure.
  • Within the neurodevelopmental team Occupational Therapists may be asked by other clinicians within the team to carry out motor co-ordination, perceptual, environmental or sensory assessments as part of the diagnostic process.

Nurses

  • The Nurses in our team have specialised interests in intellectual disability and mental health. Out nursing service can provide physical health monitoring as part of our ADHD service.

Paediatricians

  • Our Paediatricians in the team provide specialist, holistic health assessments of children and young people. They may consider the possibility of any underlying medical or genetic cause relating to their presentation. Not all children and young people need to see a Paediatrician as part of their neurodevelopmental assessment.

Psychiatrists

  • The role of the Psychiatrists in the Neurodevelopment Service is to support colleagues in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental presentations. The Psychiatrist has a fundamental role in assessing whether treatment with medication would be required and recommended. The Psychiatrist will initiate and monitor treatment with medication for ADHD.

Psychologists

  • Our Psychologists administer and interpret neuropsychological assessments to learn more about a young person’s learning, thinking, memory, executive functioning and attention. Psychologists are also involved with assessing complex conditions where there may be impact of a young person’s mental health, attachment difficulties, trauma or multiple co-occurring neurodevelopmental conditions. Psychologists can also deliver consultation to colleagues, services and multiagency settings to help inform best approaches and supports for children and their families.

Pharmacy

  • Our Pharmacists support the review and management of medication for ADHD, working closely with the Psychiatrists.

Dietitians

  • Our Dietitians are qualified health professionals that promote nutritional wellbeing as well as identifying and treating nutrition-related problems. The Dieticians within the service can be accessed at any point within your journey, if this input is indicated.

Support workers

  • Our support workers assist the wider team with administering and scoring assessments, planning and organising workshops and school observations, amongst other roles.
