Microbiology Services in Lanarkshire offers Bacteriology, Mycology, Serology and sexual Health testing services as well as COVID polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.

Routine Microbiology, Mycology, Serology services and Sexual Health services are currently running at around 90% and Covid19 PCR testing is close to capacity.

Extended capacity for Covid19 testing is expected to be in place by end December 2020 and return to normal levels for Microbiology Services within a similar time frame.

Patients and services users will find turnaround times for some GP sample types may be slightly longer due to temporary redistribution of routine work across the three Lanarkshire Microbiology Departments but this is being kept to a minimum and should not affect patient care.
