Understanding the Dynamics of Domestic Abuse
Aim:
Live online session that covers why gender is so important in the context of domestic abuse, the impact on women and children, responding safely and services available.
Learning Objectives:
On completion of this course, participants will:
- Be able to explain why gender is so important in the context of domestic abuse
- Understand some of the effects of domestic abuse on women and children
- Identify what services are available to refer women and children affected by domestic abuse to
- Understand what safe practice is when supporting women who have disclosed domestic abuse
Target Audience:
Any NHS Lanarkshire staff who requires to develop their knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse.

Routine Enquiry of Domestic Abuse
Aim:
Live online session that covers routine enquiry of domestic abuse.
Learning Objectives:
On completion of this course, participants will:
- Know when, how and why to undertake routine enquiry of domestic abuse
- Be able to respond safely and sensitively to disclosure of abuse
- Be clear on how to access support and guidance
Target Audience:
Staff in Health Visiting, Maternity and Sexual Health who are expected to routinely enquire about domestic abuse as part of their role.

Domestic Abuse Risk Assessment Training
Aim:
A face to face facilitated session that covers how to assess risk in domestic abuse cases using the SafeLives Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour Based Violence Risk Identification Checklist (DASH RIC).
Learning Objectives:
On completion of this course, participants will:
- Be able to identify risk factors in domestic abuse cases
- Know how to use SafeLives Domestic Abuse Stalking and Harassment Risk Identification Checklist (DASH RIC), in practice
- Have a greater understanding of safety planning with people experiencing domestic abuse
- Understand the role of and how to refer into MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference)
Target Audience:
This course is suitable for frontline professionals who come into contact with victims of domestic abuse in their day-to-day work. The course will be of particular interest to those who work in health visiting, mental health or addictions.

Aim:
Live online session that introduces participants to the Safe and Togetherâ„¢ Model
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will have gained:
- An introduction on a perpetrator pattern framework
- An introduction and understanding of the Safe & Together Model Principles and components and how those guide practice.
- An introduction on how to use the Safe &Together Model as a way to enhance good practice
Target Audience:
Staff working in services involving children and domestic abuse. This may include those working in health visiting, midwifery, mental health, addictions.

Aim:
NES e-learning to raise awareness on gender-based violence amongst health and social care staff.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain what is meant by gender-based violence
- Define the impact of gender-based violence
- Define the nature of a sensitive healthcare response to someone who has experienced such abuse
- Explain what needs to be recorded following disclosure of abuse
- Identity sources of community supports for survivors of gender-based violence

NES: Coercive Control
Aim:
NES e-learning to provide guidance for healthcare workers on coercive control. It explores how coercive control can develop in a relationship and its impact on health. The module explains how to recognise and respond to coercive control, including guidance on a trauma-informed approach and how to record and share information.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the scale and nature of domestic abuse
- Understand the dynamics of coercive control
- Identify coercively controlling behaviours
- Recognise the impact on survivors’ health and wellbeing
- Be able to ask appropriately about domestic abuse
- Understand how to provide a safe and trauma-informed response
- Be aware of the processes and organisations available to support survivors.

- How to record and share information safely
- The Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 and other legal instruments to help survivors

Aim:
This online module provides an overview of the extent of human trafficking in Scotland and alerts you to signs indicating risks to individuals. This module provides some practical information about the health needs of trafficked people and briefly outlines your role in health and social care in identifying and responding appropriately to trafficked individuals.
