Energy Limiting Conditions (ELC) Specialist Service

The NHS Lanarkshire Energy Limiting Conditions (ELC) Specialist Service provides specialist support for adults living with conditions including Long Covid, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and other conditions that significantly affect energy levels and everyday activities.

How we can help

Energy-limiting conditions can affect people in different ways and symptoms can vary over time.

Our multidisciplinary team includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, a Clinical Psychologist, Dietitian and support staff, with specialist expertise in:

  • Fatigue
  • post-exertional symptom exacerbation/post-exertional malaise (PESE/PEM)
  • dysautonomia
  • symptom management.

We provide holistic assessment, rehabilitation, education and self-management support to help people better understand and manage their condition, improve their quality of life and maintain their independence wherever possible.

The ELC Specialist Service works closely with GPs, hospital services and community teams across NHS Lanarkshire. We provide specialist support for people experiencing moderate to very severe symptoms and work with other healthcare professionals to help people receive the most appropriate care and support.

How to access the service

The ELC Specialist Service does not accept self-referrals.

Referrals must be made by a healthcare professional involved in your care. This could be your GP, hospital consultant or another member of your healthcare team.

If you think you may benefit from support from the ELC Specialist Service, please speak to the healthcare professional currently supporting you. They can discuss your needs with you and consider whether a referral to the service may be appropriate.
