Drug Initiation Service
What is the drug initiation service?
The Drug Initiation Service will help you start a new medicine safely.
This service is for medicines that require extra monitoring when you first begin treatment.
Monitoring may include blood tests or blood pressure checks.
Your specialist team will ask us to start you on one of these medicines.
We will support and monitor you at the start of your treatment. This will be until you are stable on your new medicine.
How does the drug initiation service work?
We will get in touch with you via phone to discuss your new medicine. This will include any required monitoring.
We will write paper prescriptions for your new medicine and post them to you.
You can take the paper prescriptions to your local community pharmacy.
We will also tell your GP that you are starting a new medicine.
