Alcohol
- You can still drink alcohol if you take insulin.
- Alcohol may make your blood glucose rise initially, but you can also be at risk of hypoglycaemia when drinking, especially to excess.
- If you take insulin do not take extra insulin for alcoholic drinks or mixers and always ensure that you take a carbohydrate snack before bed.
- You may find your blood glucose is low the following day, so check your blood glucose levels more regularly.
- You can discuss how to manage your blood glucose levels if consuming alcohol with your health care professional.
