Amputee Rehabilitation Service
Out-patient physiotherapy for Amputee Rehabilitation recommenced the week beginning 21 September 2020.
This service is specifically for people who are appropriate for learning how to use a prosthetic limb.
Access to the service will continue to be through clinical referral; either from consultant, GP and/or Health Professional. The clinics will take place at University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Monklands and University Hospital Wishaw.
The previous arrangement for the service saw it run in a group format – with patients all attending for their rehab for a whole afternoon and sharing the gym space.
Now, to assure appropriate social distancing and infection control standards, the service will be delivered in a clinic model. Overall this will be a shorter session, but as patients will be getting 1:1 treatment from the physiotherapist does not represent a reduction in content.
Patients will then be scheduled to return when it is clinically appropriate – for example, some may attend twice a week, other may not need to return for a month. This model allows the best use of the clinic’s capacity, ensuring that the maximum amount of people can utilise the service.
