A team which provides pharmacy support to the surgical and critical care team at the University Hospital Wishaw has won Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year at this year’s national Scottish Pharmacy Awards 2020.
The pharmacy team are part of the multidisciplinary team who take care of some of the most critically ill patients in the hospital, as well supporting patients who have undergone surgery and have been recognised for their work providing the service during the pandemic.
The 2020 Scottish Pharmacy Awards: Raise the Curtain, this year celebrated the work of pharmacy heroes across Scotland during the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 and were presented virtually this week to the worthy winners.
Jennifer Murphy, Senior Clinical Pharmacist Critical Care, University Hospital Wishaw, said “ We are over the moon that our team have won this award, I am proud of the work our team have achieved during this unprecedented time and delighted that this has been recognised at a national level”
Michael Smith, Clinical Pharmacist: Surgery, University Hospital Wishaw, said: “The team are absolutely delighted to have won, especially in light of COVID-19 and all the work we’ve been putting in and it’s amazing to have it recognised at a national level.”
The team is managed by two highly experienced clinical pharmacists. Three band 7 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants support the team and together they provide a clinical pharmacy service to acute surgical receiving, elective surgery, trauma, gynaecology and intensive care at University Hospital Wishaw.
