Outpatients – attending hospital for day treatment or surgery

To help you prepare for your hospital treatment as a day patient, read our ‘Outpatient Informationsheet or our booklet ‘Day Surgery – information for patients’.

Both contain advice and guidance on preparing for your visit and what to expect when you get there.

You’ll find hospital contact information, location details and travel information on our hospitals pages:

Patient Rights

The Patient Rights (Scotland) Act 2011 was passed by the Scottish Parliament on 24 February 2011, and received Royal Assent on 31 March 2011.

The Act requires Scottish Ministers to publish a Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities which summarises the existing rights and responsibilities of patients using the NHS in Scotland and of people with an interest in their care.

Within the charter, your rights and responsibilities fall under six  headings – access, communications and participation, confidentiality, respect, safety, feedback and complaints.

You can access a copy of the charter on the NHS inform website.
