NHS Lanarkshire has welcomed a Healthcare Improvement Scotland report relating to an inspection visit to University Hospital Monklands on 18-20 January 2022.

Eddie Docherty, NHS Lanarkshire executive director for nursing, midwifery and allied health professions, said:

“We are pleased this report recognises and acknowledges the effective patient care our staff at University Hospital Monklands are providing, including positive patient and staff interactions, at a time where they have been under relentless pressure the past two years as a result of the pandemic.

“This positive feedback for staff is thoroughly deserved and we are thankful to have such a dedicated team who continue to rise to the challenge despite unprecedented pressures.

“The inspectors also highlighted some areas for improvement and recognises the immediate action we took to address concerns. We already have a detailed action plan to address any issues which we will implement.

“Our hospitals are currently over capacity and we continue to make best use of all available space in ward areas to manage current exceptional demands.

“The safety of our patients and staff is always our top priority and we take all necessary action to ensure safe and effective patient care despite the current pressures.”
