Covid testing in Springhall and Whitlawburn

May 28, 2021

People from Springhall and Whitlawburn and surrounding areas are being encouraged to get a Covid test as these areas are seeing a rise in cases.

To help identify cases, and control the spread, people can get a testing kit from Springhall Community Centre (30 Cruachan Road, Rutherglen, G73 5EL) – collection 10:30am – 2:30pm and drop-off 2:30pm -4:00pm. – today (Friday 28 May).

Dr Jackie Hyland, NHS Lanarkshire Consultant in Health Protection, said: “We need your help to make sure we keep infections down in your area.

“I would strongly encourage people from Springhall and Whitlawburn and surrounding areas, to get a Covid test. The more the virus spreads undetected, the greater chance new variants can take hold.”

People can also be tested at following centres:

• Eastfield Lifestyles: Monday to Friday (9.30am – 2.30pm) Saturday and Sunday (9.30am-5.30pm)
• John Wright Sports Centre, East Kilbride: (9.30am – 4.30pm)
• Newton Park Primary School: Monday to Friday (3.30pm-6pm) and Saturday and Sunday (9.30am-5.30pm)
• Red Deer Centre, East Kilbride: (8am-8pm)

Appointments for those with or without symptoms can be made by visiting the NHS Lanarkshire website – https://www.nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/novel-corona-virus-covid-19/ – or by calling 0800 028 2816.

Testing kits can be ordered online at https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests or by calling 119 for home delivery.

Dr Jackie Hyland added: “No one wants restrictions to be put back in place. So be careful and think about where you are going to and what you are doing.

“You, your family and friends can make sure the infections stops spreading in your area by keeping your distance, wearing a face covering and washing your hands.

“In addition, getting tested and taking up the vaccine offer also play a crucial role in stopping the spread of the virus. Even if you have had the vaccine, you still need to follow FACTS.”

• C – clean hands and surfaces regularly
• T – two metres distance from other people
• S – self-isolate and book a test if you have covid-19 symptoms (new continuous cough, fever or loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste)
