A retired paediatrician who has come back to help support the vaccination programme is urging Lanarkshire residents to attend their appointments for flu and Covid-19 to ensure their protection does not fade.
Dr Charles Skeoch was a paediatrician at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill, and the new Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, before retiring a few years ago.
However, he decided to offer his support to Lanarkshire’s Covid vaccination programme and is now the programme’s clinical lead.
He is urging Lanarkshire residents to support the programme and top up their protection against Covid-19 by getting their vaccination.
Dr Skeoch said: “People who are eligible will be received letters of appointment for their flu or Covid-19 booster or both and I am asking everyone who is offered an appointment to please attend for their vaccinations.
“It is extremely important as evidence shows that the Covid-19 vaccine protection fades and the flu virus changes over time so getting your vaccinations will not only offer protection but help reduce the risk of severe illness as Covid is still a very serious infectious disease.
“If you receive an appointment and the date is not suitable please reschedule through the NHSD Inform online booking portal where you can book a date or time that fits in with your diary.”
The programme has already started to vaccinate eligible care home residents and staff, the housebound, frontline health and social care staff, and appointment letters are being issued for other eligible cohorts in a sequential order determined on nationally agreed clinical priorities.
