Today every midwife across Lanarkshire and beyond is being offered thanks from NHS Lanarkshire’s Executive Nurse Director ahead of International Day of the Midwife.
Trudi Marshall, Executive Nurse Director has offered a personal thank you to midwives for their contribution to care of women and their babies over the years and their vital role in bringing new life into the world.
Trudi said: “Midwives throughout Lanarkshire, and indeed the world, have made an enormous contribution to the NHS and deserve to have a day dedicated to them.
“This year’s theme, Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis, highlights the indispensable role midwives play in supporting mothers and babies through various crisis. From the Covid 19 Pandemic to the recent Red weather incident midwives are the trusted first responders within their communities, who can prepare health systems to be ready for any crisis.
“The role of midwives during pregnancy and childbirth is complex and extends beyond delivering babies. Without the midwives caring for women across Lanarkshire the NHS would be unable to offer the high quality maternity care it provides day in and day out and we should applaud our midwifery colleagues for their devotion and professionalism.
“I am proud of our midwifery team in Lanarkshire. Their dedicated and expertise continue to leave a profound impact on the lives of mothers and babies, ensuring safe and healthy transitions into parenthood.
“I would like to offer my deepest appreciation and thanks to all our midwifery colleagues across Lanarkshire on their day of recognition. I am grateful to them all and the immense value they add to NHS Lanarkshire every day.”
