NHS Lanarkshire logo and 75 years of the NHS

As the Easter holiday approaches, NHS Lanarkshire pharmacy services will remain accessible throughout the public holidays.

The majority of pharmacies will be open to cater to essential healthcare advice and support on Good Friday, 29 March.

On Sunday 30 March and Easter Monday, 1 April, a substantial number of pharmacies across Lanarkshire will also be operational.

Details of pharmacies open during the Easter period are available on the online Spring Health Hub. The hub is available via the NHS Lanarkshire website and serves as an online resource designed to facilitate access to various healthcare services for Lanarkshire residents.

GP practices will be closed on the public holidays. If anyone requires care and their GP surgery isn’t available, they should call NHS 24 on 111 to access out-of-hours care. Your local pharmacist can also provide healthcare advice and provide medications without prescription when appropriate.

Lauren Gibson, lead pharmacist for community pharmacy services, said: “Community pharmacies offer a wealth of support for common springtime ailments like hay fever, with a wider variety of hay fever treatments available for this year through Pharmacy First.

“Through services such as Pharmacy First, pharmacists can assist with other common conditions such as allergies, coughs, colds, sore throats, upset stomachs, constipation, diarrhoea and skin conditions.

“Additionally, pharmacies can also supply if appropriate antibiotics for urine infections and minor eye infections, and can issue emergency supplies of regular repeat medication.

“The beauty of community pharmacy lies in its accessibility, walk in with no appointment necessary. Pharmacists are equipped to assess conditions and provide appropriate treatments. If medication isn’t suitable, pharmacists offer invaluable self-care advice or referral guidance to ensure you receive the right care.”

“It is important to plan ahead by ensuring timely orders of regular repeat medications, being mindful of GP practice and community pharmacy opening hours, which may vary during the holidays. Should you forget to order medications, rest assured that pharmacies are prepared to provide urgent supplies if appropriate.”
