NHS Lanarkshire is developing its first anti-racism plan and is inviting patients and the wider community to help shape its direction.

A draft version has been published on the NHS Lanarkshire website and feedback is being sought from people across the county.

Professor S Josephine Pravinkumar, NHS Lanarkshire Director of Public Health and Health Policy, said: “This is not just an internal strategy, it’s a shared commitment to doing better for everyone in Lanarkshire.

“Racism, in all its forms, impacts people’s health and wellbeing. We are asking the public to help us identify what needs to change and how we can become part of that change.”

The plan identifies priorities around inclusive leadership, staff support, fair access to care and tackling discrimination.

Community feedback will play a central role in refining these priorities and shaping the actions that follow.

Jacqui Jones, NHS Lanarkshire Director of Human Resources (HR) said: “We know that racism and discrimination can harm people’s health, confidence in services and quality of care.

“We want to hear from those who use our services. Your voices and your experiences are key to making sure this plan is meaningful and effective.”

The draft plan is available at: https://www.nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/get-involved/consult-engage/anti-racism-plan/

Comments can be submitted via email at LAN.Anti-RacismPlan@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

The feedback period is open until Monday 30 June.
