As nurseries open their doors after the festive period, our vaccination team are travelling across Lanarkshire offering the flu vaccine to those children who missed out at the last visits
This is the first year NHS Lanarkshire has provided the flu vaccine in nursery premises and last week the vaccination team were at Woodlands Nursery in Hamilton.
Also visiting the nursery to meet staff and offer his personal thanks was the Chief Officer of South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership, Professor Soumen Sengupta.
Professor Sengupta said: “It was a delight to visit Woodlands Nursery and spend time with the wonderful staff and children.
“Flu can make little ones feel very unwell, but a simple nasal spray vaccine helps protect them and those around them.
“Bringing flu vaccination into nurseries means parents can access this protection in a setting that feels comfortable and familiar for their children.
“With over 300 nurseries visited and more than 6,500 children vaccinated so far, this success shows what we can achieve together.
“My sincere thanks to our nursery and education colleagues for their incredible support, our vaccination teams for their dedication, and the families and communities who have engaged so positively with us.”
Paul Cairns, Head of Establishment at Woodlands Nursery, added: “Having the vaccination team come into the nursery has been a positive experience for both the children and the parents.
“We certainly hope that this continues in the future.”
There is still time for anyone not vaccinated to get their flu vaccination.
Tobias Tipper, general manager for the NHS Lanarkshire Vaccination Service said: “Our teams are working tirelessly, seven days a week, to make vaccination as accessible as possible.
“Details of where and when weekly clinics are open, and whether they are appointment or drop-in, can be found on the NHS Lanarkshire website.”
