A local dentist is reassuring patients, that they will still receive treatment if they require urgent dental care.

Anne Moore is reminding Lanarkshire residents that although services are being delivered in a different way, the NHS is still open.

Routine dental care has currently been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, patients requiring urgent treatment will be seen at one of Lanarkshire’s dental care centres.

Anne Moore, director of dentistry, said: “During Covid-19, the way in which we access dental treatment has changed.

“Dentists have been asked to stop all routine ‘face-to-face’ dental care. However, all dentists are still able to give advice and issue antibiotics and pain killers, whatever is appropriate for the individual patient and if necessary refer on for treatment in an urgent dental care centre.

“If you have a dental problem, you should call your dentist as normal. Your dentist will then give you advice over the telephone and arrangements will be made if you need to be seen.

“If you do not have a dentist, you can find your nearest dental surgery by using the services directory at nhsinform.scot.

“If you have a dental problem out of hours, when dental practices are closed, you can contact NHS 24 by calling 111.

“If you or your family have symptoms of Covid-19, you should advise the dentist when you call them and arrangements will be made if you need urgent care.”

Patients are being encouraged to contact their own dental practice if they require dental help. The dentist can offer help and advice and can refer you to a dental care centre should you require face-to-face treatment.
