Meet the Experts
General Practitioner (GP)

When you have an illness or injury that just won’t go away, make an appointment to speak to your General Practitioner (GP) practice staff.
Your practice is the first place you should go for:
- GP consultations
- Clinics for long term conditions such as asthma, heart disease and COPD
- Cervical screening
- Contraceptive services
They also provide the link to further health services and work closely with other health and social care workers. You can also access your Community Link Worker through your GP practice.
Many people can have their health care needs met without an ‘in person’ consultation. Most people are able to have their GP practice appointment over the telephone or by NearMe video consultation. Meaning you can often stay at home when you feel unwell.
If GP practice staff advise that they need to see you to carry out tests or a physical assessment, they will arrange for you to attend the practice for a face to face appointment.
Everyone needs to register at their local GP surgery, to find your nearest medical practice, visit the link below.
Visit www.nhsinform.scot or call 0800 22 44 88 to find your nearest GP.
