PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SITE SCORES DO NOT REPRESENT A DECISION BY THE BOARD OF NHS LANARKSHIRE ON THE LOCATION OF THE NEW UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL MONKLANDS.
NHS Lanarkshire is seeking feedback following completion of an appraisal of the three site options for the new University Hospital Monklands.
The “site feasibility option appraisal” for the Monklands Replacement Project (MRP), which incorporates the recent postal scoring exercise carried out by a group of the public and NHS Lanarkshire staff, has produced the following scores for the three potential sites (in alphabetical order):
- Gartcosh – 194.12
- Glenmavis – 156.84
- Wester Moffat – 195.74
A feedback period for the public, our staff and other stakeholders to give their views starts today (30 September) and runs until midnight on 18 October. To comment:
- Email – MRP.Team@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk;
- Write to – FREEPOST RTEJ-HZLK-AETZ, Communications Dept, NHS Lanarkshire, Kirklands, Fallside Road, Bothwell, G71 8BB;

NHS Lanarkshire director of planning, property & performance Colin Lauder said: “The option appraisal process has produced a score for each of the sites but it is important to note that no decision has been made at this stage on the final choice for the hospital’s location.
“There are several other factors that require to be considered by the Board of NHS Lanarkshire before they recommend a preferred site option to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, who will make a final decision.
“A key element will be the views we receive about the option appraisal process and its outcome, so we’d encourage the community and our NHS Lanarkshire colleagues to give us their opinions during the feedback period.
“To help inform the feedback, documentation which summarises the option appraisal process has now been published on the MRP webpage – www.monklands.scot.nhs.uk – along with the full option appraisal report and appendices.
“The feedback received between now and 18 October will be considered by the Board of NHS Lanarkshire alongside a range of other factors, including all the information we gathered during our public engagement work earlier this year.
“An update to our existing Fairer Scotland Duty Assessment will be issued in October and published on the MRP webpage. The Fairer Scotland Duty is a process which requires NHS Lanarkshire to consider the socio-economic impact of the hospital’s relocation.”
Now published on the MRP webpage – www.monklands.scot.nhs.uk:
- Option appraisal report summary with details of how to participate in the feedback period and a summary of the outcome of the appraisal stages, including the postal scoring process undertaken by the community and NHS Lanarkshire staff.
- Option appraisal report and appendices, providing full details of each element of the option appraisal process.
